How to Find a Play  

This guide is designed to help you find information about plays and playwrights. Click on any of the tabs above to find reference sources, books, newspaper reviews and journal articles containing commentary and biographical information on a playwright and/or criticism of his or her work.

Dramatic criticism may be entire books of critical and/or explanatory essays discussing the playwright's work.  It is written by scholars who have devoted their professional lives to the study of dramatic works. These people typically publish their criticism in the form of essays in books or articles in scholarly journals. Dramatic criticism from credible and authoritative sources can be difficult to find through websites.
