What is Kurzweil 3000?

Kurzweil 3000 is a text-to-speech software program that provides support with reading, writing, and study skills.

Where can I access the Kurzweil program?

It is accessible on any of the library computers via the Start Menu or the Accessible Resources icon on the student desktop.

How do I use Kurzweil on my own device?

  1. On the Kurzweil 3000 website, please select the “Version 20 (Web License)."
  2. After you select “Version 20 Web License,” select “Run.”
  3. After you “run” the program, you will be prompted to “Install.”
  4. Select “Install Web Licensing Software.”
  5. When prompted, please enter your name in the “user name” section. An “Organization” is not required.
  6. Click on “Complete” and then click “Next” to install the software program. Please note: It may take several minutes for the software to install on your computer.
  7. Select “Finish.”

How do I create a username and password?

  1. To create a username and password, please go to Kurzweil 3000 User Self Registration.
  2. Once on the website, you will be required to enter the following:
  • First name
  • Last name
  • MCC student email
  • School
  • MCC student #
  1. In the email section, please use your MCC student email.
  2. When selecting “School,” please select “Monroe Cmty Clg- Rochester” under the dropdown menu.
  3. Click “Add New.”
  4. You now have a username and a password.
  5. You may also login to your MCC student email account to find your assigned username and password.
  6. Login to the software program on your personal computer.
  7. If you have a Macintosh computer, use the Macintosh downloading instructions.

Scannx

What is a Scannx?

Scannx is a machine that scans your printed material and allows you to save, print, or email the scan to yourself.

Where is the Scannx?

There is one machine located near the Welcome Desk on the main (second) floor of the LeRoy V. Good Library. A second Scannx can be found at the downtown campus library located within the Learning Commons.

How do I use the Scannx?

  1. Lift the lid and place your printed material face down on the Scannx machine.
  2. Touch the screen of the computer next to the Scannx machine.
  3. Follow the prompts on the screen.
  4. Choose a destination for your scans (USB, email, print).
  5. Choose Searchable PDF as the file type. This allows your scan to be read using screen readers.
  6. Scan your printed material.
