What is MAGic?

MAGic software increases the size of what a user sees on a computer screen (all the way up to 60x magnification), while also maintaining the detail and smoothness of the image. It can also speak out loud what is on the screen to provide students with auditory input of the on-screen information. As students may see more clearly with inverted colors or any number of contrasting, bright color combinations, MAGic provides users with a number of customized color display options that students can adjust to their personal needs.

You can access MAGic from any computer in the library.

How do I access MAGic?

1. Log in to a computer using your network username and password.
2. From the desktop, click on the shortcut for Department Applications.
3. Click on the Services for Students with Disabilities folder.
4. Click on MAGic.

What is the Samsung SDP-860?

The Samsung SDP-860 is a document camera that can be used by people with limited or low vision to display and magnify a physical document onto a screen so the user can view it properly. The Samsung SDP-860 has a control wheel on the device that allows the user to change the magnification.

Where is the Samsung SDP-860 located?

The Samsung SDP-860 is located in Room 2-210 (CAT) on the main (second) floor of the LeRoy V. Good Library.

How do I use the Samsung SDP-860?

1. Turn on both the ViewSonic monitor and the Samsung SDP-860.
2. Be sure the document camera head of the Samsung SDP-860 is aimed directly down.
3. Place your printed material underneath the document camera lens.
4. Adjust the initial zoom mechanically by raising or lowering the lens on the gooseneck.
5. Then use the zoom buttons on the control wheel to finetune the image to the desired size. The image should be in focus automatically, but there is also an automatic focus (AF) button on the control panel.
