Faculty Library Collection Requests

Instructions for faculty on how to request items to be added to the MCC Libraries' collection.

Faculty: We Welcome Your Requests for New Items

We rely on faculty input to shape the Libraries' collections. Your subject expertise means that you have invaluable insight into the kinds of resources (e.g., books, DVDs, etc.) your students are likely to want or need.

Have a suggestion for a topic that you think needs to be covered by our book collection? Know of a specific book or DVD that your students are likely to benefit from reading or viewing? Please contact your liaison librarian with suggestions and requests. You can also use our ILLiad system to request books and media (directions are to the right, and a link to the system is available using the tab above).

How to Request Books and Media Using ILLiad

Don't be alarmed that ILLiad is labeled as "Interlibrary Loan"! We use this system to process both interlibrary loan requests and faculty book requests for the collection.

  1. Sign in to ILLiad using your full MCC e-mail address and password. (See the tab above for a link.)
  2. If this is the first time you have logged into ILLiad, you will be prompted to complete the “Update Account Information” page with your contact, status, and department information.
  3. In the New Request section in the menu on the left side of the screen, select the type of item you want to request.ILLiad New Request field
  4. Complete the form fields, adding in the required information, such as Title and Author.
  5. Next complete the Feedback for MCC Libraries — Collection Development Selections section of the form.ILLiad Feedback for MCC Libraries fields
  6. Choose “Yes” as the answer to “Do you recommend the library add this title to our collection?”
  7. Choosing “Shelve in the Brighton library collection” or "Shelve in the DC Learning Commons collection" as the answer to the “How would you like this delivered?” question tells the library that this is a request to purchase the item, catalog it, and add it to the library collection.
  8. If you would like to see the item when it first arrives and before it is cataloged, then choose “Hold at Brighton Service Desk” or "Hold at DC Learning Commons Service Desk" instead. You will be notified when the item has arrived so you can come to the library to look it over. It can be checked out for up to six weeks, with possible renewal if you need the item for a longer period of time.

If you have any questions about using ILLiad for collection development requests, please contact your liaison librarian.
