Globalizing the Curriculum

A guide to global education resources for MCC faculty.

Library Services & Resources That Support Globalizing the Curriculum

Many of the MCC Libraries' services and resources can help support efforts to globalize the curriculum. For example:

  • Library instruction sessions. Library instruction can be tailored to support a specific assignment or class project.
  • Information literacy. Librarians can help you ensure that information literacy is incorporated in your assignments.
  • Online research guides. Librarians can create custom online research guides (aka LibGuides) on virtually any topic.
  • Instructional videos. Librarians can create custom instructional videos to help students with research or to provide tips on using library resources.
  • Streaming video. Streaming video from Films on Demand or Kanopy can be shown in class or assigned for students' viewing.
  • Books and e-books. We have a large collection of books and e-books at your disposal, and you can request additional materials as needed. If you are addressing topics like refugees or human rights in your course, don't forget about our special collection of material in the Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Center.
  • Articles and databases. We also have over 100 databases full of articles, statistics, and more. Global Issues in Context is likely to be particularly useful for assignments with an international perspective.
  • Resources beyond the Libraries' collection. Resources not in the Libraries' collection can be borrowed via interlibrary loan or purchased and added to the collection.

What Types of Material Will Help Me Globalize My Course?

Material you might want to utilize when globalizing your course includes:

  • Books and articles written by experts and scholars from other countries.
    • Our OneSearch tool searches the library's catalog and about half our databases simultaneously (see above). And librarians will be happy to help you locate this material as well.
  • Case studies set in other countries or that explore international themes.
    • Librarians can help you locate this material too.
  • Foreign films, TV or radio broadcasts, podcasts, and the like.
    • Our streaming video database Kanopy has an extensive selection of foreign films. The Internet is a great source of foreign TV and radio broadcasts. Librarians will be happy to help you locate this type of resource.
  • Websites or blogs with an international perspective.
    • Librarians can help you vet this material, and we always enjoy figuring out the best Google searches to use.
  • International datasets or statistics.
    • Our database Statista is a great source of international statistics. And librarians can help you locate international data as well.

Accessibility is important to us. While we have made efforts to make our guides as accessible as possible, it is possible that issues could be present. If you are having difficulty accessing content in these guides or if you have any questions about the accessibility of online information posted by the MCC Libraries, please contact us.
