Plagiarism Through History

If you ask, if plagiarism existed in history, the answer is yes.

According to Richard Posner, the author of The Little Book of Plagiarism (2007), the first known case of literary plagiarism happened in Roman history (p. 50). Among famous personalities who committed plagiarism he lists even William Shakespeare (p. 51). 

Plagiarism Curiosities I

Self-plagiarism is one of unusual kinds of borrowing.

Richard A. Posner found even such an unusual self-plagiarism as copying the same love letters. It was the well know author of Tristram Shandy, Laurence Sterne, who copied and sent to his mistress the letters he had written and sent to his wife years earlier (p. 42).
