Browser Extensions and DOI & PMID Lookup Tools

This guide provides information about various types of browser plug-ins that may be helpful when accessing scholarly publications

How Browser Extensions help when Researching Online

Why use browser extensions?

  • Help to quickly connect you to PDFs of full-text articles available open access of in online library databases. Give them a try to see which ones fit best with how you research.

What do browser extensions do?

  • Scan the page metadata for DOIs (digital object identifiers) and sometime PubMed PMIDs (unique identifiers used in the PubMed database).
  • Search library holdings and open access journals.
  • If the full-text is not found online, some provide options for requesting a copy of an article from MCC Libraries Interlibrary Loan service.
