How to Read a Scholarly Article

Academic Research

A word about academic research:

In college, you will often have assignments that require you to conduct research, and finding sources for this level of research is different than your everyday "looking things up"--meaning, NOT just Google!  For these purposes, you will need to use the MCC Libraries' research resources to gather the appropriate information. There may be some research terms that are unfamiliar to you, such as:

  • scholarly article
  • peer-reviewed
  • scholarly/professional/academic journal
  • research database
  • abstract
  • references
  • citations

Don't worry! This guide will help to demystify all of that college research jargon. And remember, your MCC librarians and library staff are ALWAYS here to help.

Accessibility is important to us. While we have made efforts to make our guides as accessible as possible, it is possible that issues could be present. If you are having difficulty accessing content in these guides or if you have any questions about the accessibility of online information posted by the MCC Libraries, please contact us.
