DVDs

The MCC Libraries own a variety of DVDs concerning veterans and veteran issues that are available for checkout. To search for these, do an advanced search in our online catalog using the term "veterans" as either a subject or keyword search, limiting the material type to "media."

When I Came Home by Dan Lohaus

A film about homeless veterans in America, especially those who served in Vietnam and those who returned from the war in Iraq, revealing the challenges they face. Includes the story of Iraq War veteran Herold Noel, who suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder and lived out of his car in Brooklyn. 1 videodisc (70 min.).

This 6-CD audiobook depicts the men of Alpha Company. They battle the enemy (or maybe more the idea of the enemy), and occasionally each other. In their relationships we see their isolation and loneliness, their rage and fear. They miss their families, their girlfriends and buddies; they miss the lives they left back home. Yet they find sympathy and kindness for strangers (the old man who leads them unscathed through the mine field, the girl who grieves while she dances), and love for each other, because in Vietnam they are the only family they have.

The MCC Libraries offer a variety of media resources of potential interest to veterans. Some of these resources are even available remotely, through the MCC Libraries' web pages!

Films on Demand
Our subscription to the Films on Demand database is available to all registered MCC students and contains well over 100 video segments concerning veterans. Simply enter "veterans" in the search box.
Kanopy
Kanopy also offers streaming video to MCC students and staff. This database includes hundreds of documentary films on veterans' issues.

Interlibrary Loan

If there is a book that you can't find in the library, you may request it through interlibrary loan, which is a free service offered to current MCC students, faculty, and staff.
