This guide provides information about various types of browser plug-ins that may be helpful when accessing scholarly publications

What is LibKey.io?

LibKey.io is a tool to type or paste a DOI (Digital Object Identifier) or PMID (PubMed Identifier) number into a search box to locate a full-text copy of an article.

How do I find the DOI and PMID number?

DOI links and PMID numbers are usually found in the brief or detailed view of an article record.

How Do I Access MCC Libraries LibKey.io Tool?

Instructions

1) Go to the A-Z List of Databases. Select the letter "L". Then scroll down to clikc the "LIbKey.io" link.

2) Enter in a DOI (Digital Object Identifier) URL or a PMID (PubMed Identifier) number then click the "Find Article" button. LibKey.io will quickly search for the article.

3) A window will open providing various options:

  • One option may be links via Unpaywall to access the fulltext article on a publisher's website.

  • Sometimes a "Library Access Options" link will appear. Clicking the "Library Access Options" link takes you to the library OneSearch tool where you can click "Check for Availability" to access the "Request Full Text" link to automatically request a copy of the article via MCC Libraries Interlibrary Loan service. Note for this step you may be prompted to sign-in to your MCC Network Account with your MCC E-mail username and password.
     
  • Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a network of associated libraries that share resources by lending and borrowing with each other. You will receive a message in your MCC E-mail account notifying you that your Interlibrary Loan request has been completed. Request for articles are usually filled within 48 hours.
