In 1996, students in the Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Project began to develop a photographic essay designed to ensure that survivor testimony will have an enduring legacy in the Rochester, NY, community. The exhibit combines biographical vignettes with visual images of men and women who survived the Holocaust and became productive members of our community. The vignettes written by student interviewers accompany black-and-white photographs taken by the internationally renowned photographer Louis Ouzer.
The photographic essay is entitled, "I Told You . . . Now Tell the World." It is intended to honor the survivors of the Holocaust who have contributed so much to those whose lives they have touched. It is a living memorial to their perseverance, sometimes luck, and desire to ensure that the world remembers not only them, but those who did not survive this darkest chapter in our collective history.
The exhibit was partially funded by the Endowed Chair in Holocaust Genocide Studies at Monroe Community College, a strategic planning grant awarded by the college, and private donations.
